Comedian Bernie Mac Dies at 50

I was deeply saddened to wake up this morning and hear that Bernie Mac (real name: Bernard Jeffery McCullough) has passed away at the age of 50. The actor and comedian passed away in the early hours of Saturday (9 August 2008) from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital. We have certainly lost a great person. I loved watching Bernie Mac, I think one of the best movies I saw him act in was “Guess Who” with Ashton Kutcher. Bernie Mac’s career began with a small role in “Mo’ Money” in 1992. Mac went on to appear in the “Ocean’s 11″ films with Brad Pitt and George Clooney,”Bad Santa,” “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” and other films.

Mac was also a great stand up comedian. Apparently his first standup performance was at a church dinner when he was 8, and he began doing standup at clubs in Chicago at 20. My all time favourite with Bernie Mac must be “The Original Kings of Comedy” with co-stars, Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley and Cedric the Entertainer. Now that was funny!

I would like to pass on my condolences to Bernie’s family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May his Soul Rest In peace.
