Olympics Day 8 - Athletics

Need I say more? What I witnessed in yesterdays Olympic 100 metre final was amazing! I never thought I would live to see the day that an athlete wins what I think is the show piece event of the Olympics, in such style and with such ease. Usain Bolt just showed every single athlete who has ever ran the 100m race how it is done. What made this race so spectacular is that Bolt not only won the race with ease ahead of his competition but he broke the world record and he eased himself to the finish line with time to ’show boat’! If Bolt had kept on running and did not ease off with a couple of metres to go, he would have shed even more time off the world record.

Being an athlete myself (we have to go way back now for that!), I ran many 100m races in my time. I thought I was quick back then but after seeing Usain yesterday, he made me feel insignificant. My only fear now is that those responsible for drug testing are going to be on Usain’s case. I hope that he is clean. I am sure we all remember how great we thought Marion Jones was and now only to find out she had been taking illegal substances and thus has been stripped of her medals. With the ease Bolt won yesterdays race, all eyes are going to be on Bolt and his drug test results. BUT that shouldn’t be the case, they should leave the man to enjoy his achievements.

I would like to congratulate Usain Bolt on a job well done you certainly are the greatest!
