Olympics Day 12 - Athletics

And who said lightning does not strike twice at the same place! Usain Bolt has done it again. I had the honour of seeing this man not only win his second gold medal yesterday but to also break the world record. I knew before the race that it was not a question of, if Bolt was going to win but rather if he was going to break the record and he knew that himself. He had already won the race after 100 metres but this time he did not ’show boat’ before the finish line like what he did in the 100m but he pushed himself all the way to the finish line to make sure the he broke Johnson’s record. What is funny is that before the race, world record holder, Michael Johnson, said that there was no way Bolt could break his record. Well Johnson, Usain Bolt did! Bolt is by far, the quickest man in the world.

I got a call from DJ Rev lastnight and I have never heard the man in so much shock before. He was truely stunned by what Bolt had done. In DJ Rev’s words, “You know how an airplane goes down the run way before take off? That’s how quick Bolt was going!” I can not agree more. The speed Bolt has is shocking and to think he is only 22 years old! I was reading that Bolt was actually not meant to run the 100m and instead was meant to run the 200m and 400m but he said that the training for the 400m was too tough. I can see why, with the way the man seems to love having a good time, as was evident by the way he ‘chicken danced’ after the race. Such was Bolt’s domination of the 200m yesterday that he could have ‘chicken danced’ across the finish line!

But yet again, my fear is that I hope they do not find some illegal substances in his blood and urine. That would really be a shame as Bolt seems to be on top of the world right now. What an athlete! The talk these Olympics has been about Phelps and Bolt. Who in your opinion is the greater athlete? I would say Bolt! Winning the 100m and 200m AND breaking both world records in the space of 3 days is amazing!
